Trevor Amphlett upload 200 x 320 gif1. When did you start going to Upper Gornal Methodist?

From the day I was born I was taken by my wonderful parents to the old Mount Zion Methodist Church, which was originally built on what is now our church car park, and attended this church every Sunday throughout my childhood and teenage years.  Following the merger of Mount Zion with our friends down the road at the Wesleyan Chapel in the early seventies I have continued to worship at Upper Gornal Methodist Church ever since.

2. Why did you start coming?

As previously stated I came with my family, but found a deeper meaning in worship following a public commitment to Jesus at a Youth for Christ Rally at Lake Street Methodist Church in 1971.

3. Good things about Upper Gornal Methodist Church?

Over the years I have found the Church to be my spiritual home, really feeling part of a family who support each other through joyous times and difficult times.  The church family are supportive, caring and loving and there is always someone who will be there for you in both a spiritual and practical way.

4. In your role within the Church, what would you like to see improve during the next year or so?

As a member of the Leadership Team it is my desire to see a church body which worships together, prays together and serves each other.  I also want others to come to know my Lord as their own saviour and friend.  I would like to see the church grow spiritually and numerically and for everyone to feel that the church is a place of love, strong fellowship and which cares about others in our community.

5. Your hobbies / interests?

I have been the Church Treasurer for more years than I care to remember, and currently work two days per week in the NHS as a fraud investigator, having taken semi-retirement four years ago.  I am a season ticket holder at Molineux, having first been taken to watch the Wolves by my Dad over fifty years ago.  I also follow Worcestershire County Cricket Club, and try to play tennis as a means of keeping a little fitness.  I am also working on building a model railway in a converted garage at home.

Marian H gif1. When did you start going to Upper Gornal Methodist Church?

I started attending the Methodist Church in Upper Gornal when I got married.

2. Why did you start coming?

Harold & I attended Kent Street Wesley Church, and were among those who marched up to Mount Zion when the two churches combined. After a successful time together we moved to the new building as Upper Gornal Methodist Church.

3. Good things about Upper Gornal Methodist Church?

Since that time I have worshiped among a caring fellowship and have received support at difficult times.

4. In your role within the Church, what would you like to see improve during the next year or so?

As for my future hopes, I have worked for many years caring for ill children, and now I delight in the lovely healthy children at Church. I pray for the time they find the Lord for themselves.

5. Your hobbies / interests?

Foreign travel and Antiques.

Jonathan Jones Upload 200 x 320 gif1. When did you start going to Upper Gornal Methodist Church?

I originally attended Kent Street Methodist Church with my family as a boy. We joined Mount Zion Methodist Church with many others as a merging together in the early 1970’s, and eventually formed Upper Gornal Methodist Church, which opened formally as a new church building on 15th July 1978.

2. Why did you start coming?

My family attended church, so since birth I have been attending on a Sunday. Initially I had no choice, but I formally made a commitment to my Lord in 1973. After that point in time, attending church was an expression of my faith and beliefs.

3. Good things about Upper Gornal Methodist Church?

Upper Gornal Methodist Church is very friendly and welcoming. There are always lots of thing happening, many very committed people at the church, who have a strong desire to make it a place where anyone can feel welcome and very much a part of the church.

4. In your role within the Church, what would you like to see improve during the next year or so?

I would like to see more people coming to join our church and enjoy the friendship and spiritual fellowship so many currently enjoy. The church is a wonderful place, where everyone can feel welcome, and get involved as much or as little as they wish to.

5. Your hobbies / interests?

I work for the University of Birmingham. This is a great job and a wonderful place to work. However, it is also very demanding. So I am out of the house around 60 hours per week. I have a nice wife and two lovely sons, so time with the family is also precious. I am also a lay preacher, which is both rewarding and demanding. So not much time left for hobbies! However, I do love my holidays in the sun, and I love Cruises and Florida especially!

My family and myself started to attend UGMC in 1998, after growing up at Himley Road Methodist Church, where I served as a musician.

2. Why did you start coming?

Having a young family we wanted a fellowship with other young children and a good Sunday School, also somewhere close to where we lived.

3. Good things about Upper Gornal Methodist Church?

We find that UGMC is a loving, caring and outward looking fellowship, which has links with the local community and a vision for telling others about Jesus.

4. In your role within the Church, what would you like to see improve during the next year or so?

It is difficult to say what I would like to see improved. To me, mission is important. My vision is to see boys and girls, men and women coming to Jesus as their Saviour, and becoming followers of Jesus, which in-turn impacts people around them, and the community they live in. Seeing UGMC improving in this area would be my aim.

5. Your hobbies / interests?

I love reading the Bible. This impacts my leisure time. I am a mechanic, and love to spend time fiddling with motorcycles and cars. My current project is the restoration of a 1966 Triumph 650cc Thunderbird.
