I would like to thank...

Every two months this web page will be reserved for all of us at Upper Gornal Methodist Church. It's good to be thanked, and other people are encouraged when we remember to thank them.

Having gathered your comments during recent Church Services, please find everyone's words of thanks below:
Our Messages Thank You

Helen Tighe
enjoyed my 60th birthday celebrations last week, and would like to thank friends from Church for cards presents and well wishes. Thank you for making my birthday special.

Gill Guest
Thank you to everyone who has prayed for me over recent weeks, and for sending cards and Get Well messages. I am now at home and making steady progress.

Rev. Andrew Roberts (tribute by Bill Caldwell)
We have been so privileged to have had Andrew Roberts working as part of our circuit team for quite a number of years. And now he's moving on from us! We shall miss Andrew's creativity; his energetic, yet gentle ministry; and thought-provoking teaching. I, personally, shall miss him for his friendship, and supportive encouragement.

No doubt you will have your own tributes to pay to Andrew. But undoubtedly what will stay with us will be his warmth and genuine kindness. Andrew has been with us through some truly blessed times - and some tough experiences as well - and in them all he has demonstrated a gracious, caring ministry - and has generously shared his wisdom with us.

We wish Andrew, and Shona and Matthew, God's richest blessing as they move on to some fresh challenges. We are sure that, as well as Andrew's book 'Holy Habits', God will use him in increasingly fresh ways of the Spirit and will touch many more lives as he continues to share the good news of Jesus. Andrew, we thank you for all that you have given to us under God's direction, and we commend you to His care as you move from us 'into pastures new!'

Gornal Fun Day
Further to the success of the 2018 Gornal Fun Day, Joan Porter has written to our Church to thank the 15 - 20 of us from UGMC who helped in various ways on the day:
”Dear Friends, On behalf of Gornal Fun Day we wish to thank everyone who helped to make this event such a success. Your continued support and involvement is always invaluable, and something we are very appreciative of. Look forward to seeing you next year. God Bless, Joan Porter (Fun Day Secretary)”

Kings Club (10/07/2018):
"To all our Kings Club volunteer helpers! A very big thank you for your loyal support and creative participation again over the last 12 months. It has been a good year with some new and old faces returning to the fold. The end of term outing was a success with Glen Roberts again out-performing the youngsters at tenpin bowling, followed by a visit to McDonalds. Kings Club re-starts on Monday 10th September." (Ann and David)

Glen Roberts (30/06/2018 Gornal Fun Day):
"On behalf of the church fellowship and myself, I would like to say a really big thank you to all the dedicated helpers who made up the "BBQ Team". To Becky, Cath, Martha, Sandra, Esther, Tony, Bill J, Dave B, Dave C and Trevor. You worked tirelessly and rose to the challenge on one of the hottest days of the year. Cath's kind offer of utilizing her garage to store the meat and bread in a cool place proved invaluable. A special thanks too to Paul and Malcolm who helped set up the stall and transported all the tables and BBQs to and from church. Also to Gill and Colin Guest who as always prepare and provide us with such lovely food. It was as usual, hard work, but worth it, as we know by God's grace we can, as a fellowship at such events, make a positive contribution to the local community. It is clear that the Gornal Fun Day is growing in size and stature, and if you haven't visited it for a few years why not come over next year and take a look? Best wishes, Glen"

Bryan & Stella Richens:
"Thank you for your love and care, especially over the past 3 months. Bryan continues to make steady progress. Your prayers have been very much appreciated. Please continue to pray for us both."

Diane Robbins:
"After many years’ service, Diane Robbins will be standing down from producing the weekly church Newsletter. Both Diane and Ian have worked tirelessly over the years via many different tasks and ministries supporting Upper Gornal. We, therefore, as a church would wish to express our thanks and appreciation for their hard work and efforts over the years. We also wish them well in their future plans and pray for the Lord's blessing to be upon Diane, Ian and their whole family."
Jonathan Jones
(On behalf of the Leadership Team and the Church)

Dorothy Cole:
"Thank you to everyone for their prayers, flowers, cards and kind messages. I am recovering from my operation at home, and saw the consultant on Tuesday (17/04/2018) to discuss future treatment."

Helen & John Tighe:
"We would like to thank everyone for the prayers, cards and messages which we received during our mother's illness. We really appreciated this support during this difficult and sad time. We would also like to thank people for donations received following June's funeral."

Kings Club:
"The youngsters at Kings Club have raised an amazing £150.00 for the British Heart Foundation. On Monday night (26/03/2018), cakes were baked and donations were given by members of the local community and the Church family. It was a wonderful example of the community and church working together for a worthy cause. May we truly thank everybody who supported this event. The young people and the Kings Club helpers were fantastic."

Anonymous:
"This is to everyone at Foodbank. God Bless you for everything you have done for me. When I get on my feet I promise to bring some food to help others, like you have helped me. Love always."

Ann-Marie Jones:
"A very big thank you to those who have responded to my request for a reader for one of the residents at Engleberg Care Home. This opportunity to show some practical caring ministry will be so much appreciated."

Jane Harris:
"Thank you to all the ladies that attended the breakfast. We collected £115 for the Georgina Ward RHH. This has been sent through Alannah, as it is one of her charities that she supports"

Kings Club:
"On Monday night (15th January) we held a leaving party for our dear friend Chloe Nicklin, who leaves as a result of work opportunities. We wish her all the best, and a massive thank you from the Kings Club team. Monday nights will not be the same."

Stella Richens:
"Thanks you to all who donated money in lieu of cards. A total of £169.00 has been sent to Acorns Childrens Hospice in Walsall."

Bill Caldwell:
"Thanks to all those who joined in the various carol singing events around the circuit and in the local pubs. We have heard some very good responses – and many people enjoyed the opportunity of joining in as we sang the familiar carols."

Karen Cockran:
"I would like to thank everyone for their kind messages, cards and prayers following my recent operation."

Ann Jones:
"Thank you to all who either helped or attended the Big Breakfast on Saturday 11th November. The amount raised is £293.00, which will be divided between MacMillan Cancer Relief and the childrens work in Mbende, Uganda."

Marian Hyde:
"Thank you to everyone for their cards, messages, help and support over the last few weeks. Also, for the welcome given to Sarah's friends and colleagues from all over the country (some of whom have contacted me since the funeral to remark upon the welcome they received). £930 was donated, and this money will be shared between Macmillan, Marie Curie and The Brainwave Fund for neurosurgery at Kings College Hospital in London. May God Bless you all".

Jackie Astbury:
"I would like to thank everyone for their cards, presents and good wishes as you joined with me to celebrate my 60th birthday last weekend"

Glennis Pittaway:
"Thank you to everyone who came to my 'Open House' to celebrate my birthday, and for your donations which amounted to £175 for E.D. Society (Ectodermal Displasia). Love Glennis"

Rev. Kevin Jones:
"Thank you so much for your support over the last two months. Recovery has been slower than I had expected, but we are on the mend. Your encouragement, care and especially prayers have been valued greatly. We had a good time at the Manse BBQ on Saturday evening, and a total of £291 was raised towards helping the Neema Mission School in Uganda. We hope this will enable us to put the roof on one of the new classrooms. We have the tin sheets, nails etc., but no money to pay the workers (so the work should soon begin). I hope you are looking forward to your summer holidays as much as we are. May God's blessing and presence be with you".

Abbie Jones:
"Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with the preparation for and participation in the Baptismal Service last Sunday night. I really appreciated all of your support, and feel very blessed to have sucha loving extended church family".

Springs Food Bank @ Upper Gornal:
"Thank you for the support you give to Springs Foodbank. Your gifts and donations are greatly appreciated. Through the coming months we will continue to need stocks of food and other household supplies to meet the needs of individuals and families in our local area. Thank you too, for all your prayers for us in this vital ministry".

The Church:
"A big thank you to Mary Fellows, who has contributed so much to the coffee & tea being served (after the evening service) for more than 30 years. She became involved for a few weeks at the time, and has carried-on ever since! Thank you Mary, your work has been very much appreciated."

Mary

Jean Bennett:
"It was such a joy to see 16 children in Church last week. Many thanks to all who work with our children - God Bless you. We pray that numbers will continue to increase, and that our children will come to know Jesus in a personal way"
