UGMC seeks to help all who connect with us to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. We do this overtly, but with gentleness and sensitivity recognising that all are free to make their own choices. We seek to treat all who we interact with equally, fairly and with respect. In our dealings with all, we seek to be honest, transparent and reliable.
In the words of Jesus (Luke 6:31) “treat others as you would have them treat you”.

More recently, Mount Zion Methodist Church was built on what is now the Car Park of Upper Gornal Methodist Church. In 1971 Kent Street Methodist Church, whose building had been condemned (knocked down), merged with Mount Zion Methodist Church. So, Kent Street’s congregation moved approximately 50 yards further up the road to worship at Mount Zion Methodist. However, the land where Kent Street Methodist Church used to be located, has never been built upon because it was a grave yard. After the merger, the then minister Eddie Smith launched the programme to build Upper Gornal Methodist Church. The building was opened in 1978. Since then there have been additions to the building, and we have had 8 ministers.

Sometimes you just need to talk an issue through. Sometimes you need someone to give you a practical hand with something. Whatever it is, we have people that can help!
We can often match you to one of our Pastoral team that is the same sex and about the same age as you. They will listen, offer prayer and advice if you want, or just be there if you prefer.
Initially, please make contact with one of the leaders here.
We can signpost you to appropriate agencies, or introduce you to qualified counsellors as necessary, and where possible, confidentiality is the expected norm.
